Thalassemia:The Cause of My Employment delay

When one door closes, another one opens. However, God is so gracious that He did not wait for the door to close. He already showed me a great opportunity while I was working as a “floater nurse”. On my third month, I received a message from a private tertiary hospital in Makati informing me about my pre-employment exam and interview. Without hesitation, I filed for resignation. I started processing all the needed requirement on October 2013 yet I was hired officially on Dec 16, 2013. Why? Because of the medical assessment.

It took me months to get a clearance. I was referred to a hematologist and urologist. I never knew that I had thalassemia until the hemoglobin electrophoresis result came out. Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder in which the body makes an abnormal form of hemoglobin. I have beta thalassemia and one risk factor is being an Asian. I thought I was going to have chelation therapy for that because that is what I recalled from college lectures however, my hematologist did not mention about the treatment. He advised me on low iron diet and thank God he gave me a clearance thereafter the consultation. For that reason, I was able to join the Batch 49, directly hired! Glory to God. All things really happen for a reason.

Below is the result of my latest CBC during my 2nd annual physical examination.
